La Porte d'Orange
La Porte d'Orange

On the north side of Carpentras stands the very last vestige of the old 14th century ramparts, the Orange entrance which was originally part of a defensive unit with 32 round and semi-round towers.

The remaining tower stands proud and tall at 26 meters height, with its crenellated top on corbelled machicolations. The Orange entrance is one of the most beloved buildings in Carpentras, and was saved from destruction in the nick of time during the major urban renewal projects which took place in the late 19th century.
