Vacqueyras

Standing at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail massif, the small winegrowing village of Vacqueyras is famous for its prestigious Côtes du Rhône classified growth.

Vacqueyras provides you with charm in its old village, with its narrow streets that climb towards the wall surrounding the Château des Vassadel, who were the lords of the castle in the past, and towards the church with its elegant Provençal bell that rises up to the summit of a 12th century guard tower.

The unparalleled reputation of the vines dates from the 20th century. The vineyards gained official recognition for the quality of their wines in 1990 by being named a ‘vintage’, placing Vacqueyras at the top of the rankings of AOC Côtes du Rhône wines.

A wine-growing trail was created by the appellation's wine growers and traders. The route takes three hours (around eight kilometres, not particularly challenging) and you can appreciate the importance of the climate, area, grape variety, expertise and manual labour in cultivating a celebrated wine.
