Le Barroux

From the Comtadin plains as you approach, the village of Le Barroux stands out against the blue sky, majestic and looming. Sloping winding streets lead to the castle and its beautiful gardens.

From the castle you have magnificent views over the area, the vineyards, Mont Ventoux, and the Dentelles de Montmirail, standing tall like natural sentinels jealously guarding the beautiful surrounding area.

From the wash house in Place de la Barbière to the windmill in Pontin, passing in front of the Hôtel Dieu (a former hospital founded in 1775), take a walk at your own pace through this village which has retained its authenticity. Walkers should head to the castle and take in the view from the esplanade in front of the Notre-Dame la Brune chapel.

Mont Ventoux rises up to the east, at the foot of the village the plain of the Comtat Venaissin stretches on and as the sun sets you will see the limestone summits of the Dentelles de Montmirail.

Below, the mosaic of traditional canal tile roofs is overlooked by the wrought iron bell tower and the Saint-Jean Baptise church bell.
