Venaissin, which is named after Venasque, the village has been protected since time immemorial by its nearly unassailable location on top of a rock. Known not only for its historical monuments, the village has also benefited from a municipal order dating from 1967 which bans any exterior modifications to the houses and requires that ruins be rebuilt as they were originally.
